50 Word Stories
Teaching life and telling stories … in 50-word stories
I got this idea from a Copyblogger article in which Raj Setty teaches storytelling to startups using mini sagas. He defines mini sagas as "stories that are told in exactly 50 words each, not a word more or less."
I love the idea of constraining myself to create a story in exactly 50 words. So I tried it out, and it's a lot harder than it seems. Below are my first two mini sagas.
With the focus of a Zen master, he sat frozen in time. Playing it cool as his prized walked closer. Taking deep breathes; he tried to control the loud thumping of his heart. He knew it was now or never. He pulled the trigger. “Hi, how you doin’?” He missed.
Eliciting Jealously as a Confidence Booster
With a quick swipe of the card, Mary left the store with a beautiful necklace, and headed straight to the gala. She paraded around the ballroom soliciting compliments from the guests. With every flattering remark, her confidence ballooned until she forgot about her debt. It was worth it, for now.
